Jaipur: The Centre has approved a proposal from the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Ltd to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure across Rajasthan, with financial support of Rs 81.12 crore, officials said. The project will see 591 charging stations installed at 262 locations in the state’s four smart cities and along major highways, in a move aimed at strengthening the EV charging network and making long-distance electric travel easier.

Network to cover smart cities and highways

According to the official statement, the plan has been cleared under the Prime Minister’s e-Drive scheme, which is intended to support green energy adoption and encourage the use of electric vehicles in the state.

Of the proposed charging stations, 112 will come up in Jaipur, 49 in Ajmer, 39 in Udaipur and 28 in Kota. Another 34 stations will be installed along national and state highways. All of them will be set up on land owned by government departments.

Officials said the expanded network is expected to improve access to charging facilities for EV users, especially on intercity routes, and support wider adoption of non-polluting vehicles.

The initiative is also expected to cut carbon emissions and deepen the state’s green energy infrastructure, the statement added.
