New Delhi: The International Road Federation (IRF) on Thursday asked the Delhi government to do away with the price ceiling that decides eligibility for incentives under the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy, contending that every EV contributes equally to curbing pollution irrespective of its price.

According to the federation's statement, an electric vehicle currently qualifies for a 100 percent waiver of road tax and registration fees only if its ex-showroom price is Rs 30 lakh or below. Electric cars priced above this cap receive no such tax relief.
In a letter addressed to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, IRF president emeritus KK Kapila praised the state government for its proactive push on electric mobility, pointing to its attractive incentives and the widening of the EV charging network.
Kapila cautioned, however, that confining the incentives to vehicles priced below a fixed limit could hold back EV uptake across several segments of the market. He recommended that the incentives be extended without any price ceiling, so that every buyer opting for electric mobility is encouraged equally.
"Every electric vehicle on the road helps reduce air pollution, lowers carbon emissions, and supports the transition to clean and sustainable transportation. Environmental benefits are independent of the purchase price of the vehicle," Kapila said.

He added that he was confident the Delhi government would give the proposal due consideration and bring in the necessary policy changes at the earliest, in the larger public and environmental interest.
