New Delhi: Oil India Limited (OIL) has signed a collaboration framework with the Petroleum Technology Research Centre (PTRC), a not-for-profit energy research company of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, in the fields of carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), geothermal energy and the development of clean energy technologies, the Maharatna company said in a statement on Thursday.

The framework, signed on the sidelines of the Global Energy Show 2026 at Calgary on June 10, also covers collaborative research interests with mc2+ for start-ups, a platform created under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
The agreement was signed "to strengthen the friendly relations between Canada and India and acknowledging the importance of cooperation in addressing global challenges related to energy transition and sustainability," the statement said.
The signing event was attended by the Premier of Saskatchewan Scott Moe, the High Commissioner of India to Canada, the CEO of PTRC, the CMD of OIL and other senior officials.
Under the framework, the two sides will work on the utilisation of captured CO2, covering both permanent storage through geological sequestration and mineralisation in geological formations.
The collaboration also extends to innovative enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods "to help lessen the environmental impacts and energy use of oil/gas production," according to the statement.
OIL and PTRC will work with established networks and partners specific to each organisation to identify business opportunities in both countries, and will identify potential geothermal projects of mutual interest to study and participate in.
The framework further provides for collaborative research by OIL and PTRC's Energy Innovation Hub lab on projects involving subsurface energy production and subsurface storage, along with collaborative research interests with the mc2+ start-up platform.

PTRC is an energy research company of the Province of Saskatchewan, while OIL is a Maharatna central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
