BPCL diesel sales rise 6.72% in May, outpace petrol growth

BPCL's diesel sales grew faster than petrol in May 2026, with both fuels posting year-on-year gains in the company's monthly volumes

New Delhi: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) reported year-on-year growth across petrol, diesel and LPG in its May 2026 sales, with diesel — its largest-volume fuel — leading the gains. The company's high-speed diesel sales rose 6.72 percent from a year earlier, outpacing the 4.29 percent growth in petrol sales, according to a company statement on its monthly performance.

Diesel outpaces petrol

BPCL's diesel sales crossed 21 lakh metric tonnes (MT) during the month, a rise of 6.72 percent over the corresponding period a year ago, the company said. It attributed the demand to logistics movement, infrastructure development, industrial activity and agricultural operations across several regions.

Petrol sales stood at more than 10.5 lakh MT, up 4.29 percent year-on-year, which the company linked to continued personal mobility, higher road travel and sustained consumer activity in urban and semi-urban markets. The absolute petrol and diesel volumes were disclosed as approximate figures, with only the growth rates stated precisely.

LPG refills cross 3.51 crore

LPG refill activity remained strong, with BPCL delivering over 3.51 crore refills in May 2026. This comprised 33,928,057 domestic cylinder refills, 832,257 commercial cylinder refills and 358,400 Bharatgas Mini cylinder refills, the company said, across its domestic, commercial and Bharatgas Mini segments.
