Commercial LPG price hiked by record Rs 993; 3rd straight monthly hike amid global surge

Commercial LPG prices recorded their steepest-ever increase, rising for the third consecutive month as global energy costs surge

EW Bureau

New Delhi: The price of commercial LPG saw an unprecedented increase of Rs 993 per 19-kg cylinder on Friday, marking the third consecutive monthly hike driven by rising global energy prices linked to the West Asia conflict. A 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder, widely used by hotels and restaurants, is now priced at Rs 3,071.5 in Delhi, up sharply from Rs 2,078.50 earlier.

Third consecutive increase adds up sharply

This latest hike follows an increase of Rs 195.50 per cylinder on April 1. Before that, prices had already been raised by Rs 114.5 per 19-kg cylinder on March 1. With three successive revisions, commercial LPG prices have cumulatively risen by Rs 1,303.

Domestic LPG prices remain unchanged

In contrast, domestic LPG used in household kitchens has not been revised in the latest cycle. Prices were last increased on March 7, when a Rs 60 hike was implemented for a 14.2-kg cylinder. A 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder currently costs Rs 913 in Delhi.

Monthly revisions linked to global benchmarks

State-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) revise prices of ATF and LPG on the first day of every month, aligning them with international benchmarks and currency movements.
