New Delhi: India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday welcomed the signing of a 10-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and ADNOC Gas, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2028.

In a joint statement issued during the official visit of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India, the two sides said the leaders “expressed satisfaction with the strength of the bilateral energy partnership and underscored the UAE’s contribution to India’s energy security.”
They added that they “welcomed signing a 10-year LNG Supply Agreement between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and ADNOC Gas for the delivery of 0.5 million tonnes per year of liquefied natural gas, beginning in 2028.”
According to the statement, the LNG agreement was seen as reinforcing the role of natural gas in India’s evolving energy mix and supporting the country’s energy security amid growing demand.
The visit marked Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s fifth trip to India in the last 10 years and his third official visit as President of the UAE.
Beyond LNG, the two sides also signalled an expansion of cooperation in the nuclear energy space. The joint statement said the leaders “welcomed the enactment of the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) law, noting that it creates new opportunities for enhanced civil nuclear cooperation.”
India and the UAE agreed “to explore partnership in advanced nuclear technologies, including development and deployment of large nuclear reactors and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs),” and also flagged cooperation in “advanced reactor systems, nuclear power plant operations and maintenance and nuclear safety.”

The energy announcements came as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reviewed the broader India–UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which the joint statement said has “continued to strengthen over the past decade,” with energy identified as a core pillar of bilateral cooperation.
