New Delhi: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) commissioned gas evacuation facilities at Khoraghat GGS-1 in Assam's Golaghat district on Tuesday, the company said in a statement. The facilities allow surplus associated natural gas from the Upper Assam Shelf to be processed and evacuated through the North East Gas Grid (NEGG), which has been developed by Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL).

ONGC said the new connectivity will enable the use of close to 1 lakh Standard Cubic Metres (SCM) of gas a day from its Jorhat asset.
The company said the Khoraghat commissioning complements the commissioning of the Dergaon–Dimapur Pipeline. That pipeline has connected Nagaland to the North East Gas Grid and to the National Gas Grid.
ONGC is developing hook-up facilities at Jantapathar and Kasomarigaon. These are intended to connect further producing fields of the Jorhat Asset to the North East Gas Grid.

According to ONGC, the projects will increase gas availability, cut flaring and strengthen the region's gas-based economy. The company said the improved availability will open up opportunities across households, industry, transport and power, and support economic and infrastructure development in Assam and the wider North-East.
