New Delhi: The Ministry of Power on Monday convened a meeting of the India Energy Stack (IES) Taskforce to accelerate the development of a unified digital public infrastructure for the country’s power sector. The ministry said the meeting marked a key step in advancing the initiative, which is envisioned as “the unified, secure, and interoperable digital backbone for the entire energy value chain.”

The IES initiative is being developed with REC Limited as the nodal agency and FSR Global as the knowledge partner. The session focused on a collective review of the draft IES Strategy Document (version 0.1) and the IES Architecture Document (version 0.1), both foundational elements of the digital stack.
According to the ministry, the roundtable discussion brought together domain experts from technology, the power sector and regulatory bodies to “capture high-level strategic guidance” following presentations of the draft documents.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Ram Sewak Sharma, former Director-General of UIDAI and former CEO of the National Health Authority. Chief Architect Pramod Verma, co-founder of FIDE and former Chief Architect of Aadhaar, and Vice Chair Pradeep Kumar Pujari, Distinguished Fellow at FSR Global and former Chairman of CERC, were also present.
Other attendees included CEA Chairperson Ghanshyam Prasad; AIDA Director-General Alok Kumar; REC CMD Jitendra Srivastava; former Grid India CMD S. K. Soonee; IEEMA President-Elect Vikram Gandotra; FSR Global Executive Director Swetha Ravi Kumar; FIDE CEO Sujith Nair; REC Executive Director Prince Dhawan; PVVNL Managing Director Raveesh Gupta; NITI Aayog Distinguished Fellow Debjani Ghosh; and Joint Secretary (Distribution) at the Ministry of Power, Shashank Mishra, among others.
Jitendra Srivastava, CMD of REC Limited, said the meeting marked “a pivotal milestone in our shared national ambition to create a unified, open, and future-ready digital backbone for India’s entire energy sector.” He added that the draft strategy and architecture documents “will be enriched by the collective wisdom and guidance of our esteemed Taskforce members,” and that the inputs received would “shape the pathway toward refinement and the pilot phase.”
The ministry said the India Energy Stack, designed as a digital public infrastructure, will identify and connect stakeholders and assets while enabling open data exchange through uniform digital specifications. By establishing common protocols, open APIs and federated registries, the system aims to break sectoral silos and enable real-time data exchange.
According to the statement, the IES will support operational efficiency at distribution companies, enable stronger integration of renewable energy, facilitate green energy markets and deliver consumer-centric power services. Members of the Taskforce noted that “what Aadhaar did for identity and UPI achieved for digital payments, the IES will accomplish for the power sector.”

The ministry said the guidance received during Monday’s discussions would be instrumental in consolidating the IES framework and preparing for the pilot phase. The Taskforce will now meet monthly “to ensure timely progress and alignment of the project.”
The India Energy Stack project is scheduled for completion by July 2026.
