NTPC floats EoI, invites commercial & industrial entities to invest 26% equity in co-generation projects

New Delhi: NTPC Limited has invited Expressions of Interest (EoI) from commercial and industrial entities willing to invest 26 percent equity in co-generation projects, the state-run power producer said in a statement on October 11. The projects would supply industrial customers with both steam and electricity. NTPC said these would be offered together with power supply solutions based on coal, renewable energy and battery storage.

“The initiative aims to explore opportunities for developing co-generation facilities to meet industrial requirements for steam and electricity, alongside integrated power supply solutions based on coal, renewable energy and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS),” the company said.

Steam and power from one system

According to NTPC, co-generation appeals to industries because a single plant meets both needs. The company said that “co-generation offers an opportunity to enhance overall energy efficiency by producing steam and electricity through an integrated system.” It linked the offer to industry’s growing focus on energy security, cost optimisation and sustainability.

The supply would be tied to long-term contracts. NTPC said the initiative “seeks to address the diverse requirements of industries with reliable, economical and sustainable energy solutions through long-term power supply arrangements.” The company described the move as part of expanding its energy solutions portfolio and “strengthening partnerships with industries.”
