India, Japan to boost cooperation in clean hydrogen, CCUS and advanced energy tech

India and Japan agree to expand clean energy cooperation, focusing on hydrogen, CCUS, renewables and advanced energy technologies

New Delhi: India and Japan agreed on Monday to expand collaboration in clean hydrogen, carbon capture and advanced energy technologies, as the two countries deepened their partnership under the Japan–India Clean Energy Partnership.

Hydrogen, ammonia and renewable energy in focus

At the ministerial-level India–Japan Energy Dialogue, held through video conferencing and co-chaired by Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Muto Yoji, the two sides reviewed ongoing cooperation and identified new areas of engagement.

In a statement, the Ministry of Power said, “The Ministers… reaffirmed commitment to energy security and inclusive growth. [They] welcomed progress in areas like energy efficiency, clean hydrogen, ammonia, renewable energy.”

Cooperation to expand into CCUS and green fuels

The two countries also “agreed to expand cooperation on Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage, green chemicals, biofuels, and advanced technologies in the energy sector,” the statement added.

Partnership to shape Indo-Pacific energy security

The Ministry stressed that “the India–Japan partnership will continue to play a pivotal role in advancing secure, resilient, and sustainable energy systems in the Indo-Pacific region.”

Khattar highlights frontier technologies

Sharing details of the dialogue on X, Manohar Lal Khattar wrote: “Our deliberations covered key areas such as smart grids, green hydrogen, renewable energy integration, energy storage, energy efficiency, and sustainable fuels. Both nations also agreed to strengthen cooperation in frontier domains, including advanced battery technologies, critical mineral supply chains, and Carbon Capture, Utilization & Storage (CCUS). Together, we are committed to building a cleaner, resilient, and sustainable energy future.”
