The manufacturing unit will be developed at the IFFCO Kisan Special Economic Zone, where the government of Andhra Pradesh has earmarked 200 acres for the project. Of this, 120 acres have been allocated for the initial phase, while 80 acres will be reserved for future expansion.
State officials said the project will be the largest ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in the country, further strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s position as a hub for advanced solar manufacturing.
The ingots and wafers to be produced at the facility are key inputs for solar cells, solar modules and semiconductor applications. Officials said the project aligns with the government’s efforts to boost domestic manufacturing capacity and reduce import dependence for strategic components.
The project is expected to generate around 1,000 direct jobs, along with significant indirect employment during the construction phase and through allied activities. As part of its clean energy commitments, TPREL will also set up a 200 MW captive green power plant to supply renewable electricity to the manufacturing facility.
According to the state government, Andhra Pradesh’s availability of ready-to-use industrial land, strong infrastructure, port connectivity and assured access to green power were key factors in attracting the investment. Officials noted that Nellore is emerging as a solar manufacturing cluster, with several renewable energy companies planning or executing large-scale projects in the region.
Welcoming the investment, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh said, “Andhra Pradesh is proud to host yet another landmark investment from the Tata Group. This project is a strong vote of confidence in our state's policy stability, infrastructure readiness, and commitment to clean energy manufacturing. It will create high-quality jobs, strengthen our solar manufacturing ecosystem, and contribute meaningfully to India's energy transition.”
Officials said the project marks TPREL’s first manufacturing investment in Andhra Pradesh under its broader renewable energy expansion plans and further reinforces the state’s image as an investor-friendly destination.
