New Delhi: Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has commissioned a 190.5 MW solar Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project at Kalasar in Bikaner, Rajasthan, the company said in a statement on Monday. The plant sits within a larger contracted capacity of 460 MW of FDRE and has been developed under SJVN FDRE Tranche-1. TPREL is a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited.

Power from the project will go to three distribution utilities: Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC), Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) and Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL).
The project carries a 115 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The company said the plant integrates large-scale solar generation with energy storage and grid support technologies to deliver dispatchable renewable power.
TPREL said it has adopted several new technologies at the site, including the BESS, a Harmonic Filter Bank and Static Var Generator systems. The company said the switchyard was completed within three months and the Harmonic Filter Bank within one month.
The company said the project was executed against compressed timelines and global supply chain disruptions that affected the availability of transmission line materials, module mounting structures and other critical equipment.
TPREL received a letter of award from SJVN in November 2023 for a 200 MW FDRE project, with a greenshoe option for additional capacity. It was the company's first FDRE win.
The 460 MW power purchase agreement with SJVN was signed in May 2024. At the time, TPREL said the plant would combine solar, wind and battery storage, generate close to 3,000 million units annually and offset around 2,200 million kg of carbon dioxide a year.
TPREL's total renewable utility capacity now stands at 12.4 GW, the company said. Of this, around 6.9 GW is operational, comprising 5.6 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind. Close to 5.5 GW is at various stages of implementation and is expected to be commissioned in phases over the next 24 months.
At the group level, Tata Power puts its total operational and under-construction capacity at over 26 GW. This includes approximately 17.7 GW of clean and green capacity, counting projects under construction, and around 8.8 GW of thermal generation.

The company lists over 7,800 circuit kilometres of transmission lines including pipeline projects, and over 13 million distribution customers. It has 4.9 GW of integrated solar cell and module manufacturing capacity, has signed 2.8 GW of pumped hydro storage projects, and operates over 7,000 public EV charging points across 717 cities and towns. Tata Power has stated a target of Net Zero by 2045.
