Suzlon to power Zelestra’s first FDRE project with 381 MW wind order

Suzlon wins 381 MW order from Zelestra for its first FDRE project across 3 states

EW Bureau

Pune: Suzlon Group has secured a 381 MW wind energy order from Zelestra India and its affiliates for what will be Zelestra’s first firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) project in the country, the company said in a statement on Friday.

The project will deploy 127 units of Suzlon’s S144 wind turbine generators (WTGs) rated at 3 MW each, across three states — Maharashtra (180 MW), Madhya Pradesh (180 MW), and Tamil Nadu (21 MW). The installations in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh are part of a bid won by SJVN, while the Tamil Nadu segment is aimed at commercial and industrial (C&I) consumers.

Energy transition

Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, called the project a “critical shift” in India’s clean energy landscape. “India’s energy transition landscape is at a pivotal juncture, where the pursuit of reliable, round-the-clock renewable power (FDRE) is taking center stage. This project marks that critical shift. We are honored to collaborate with Zelestra, a global pioneer in decarbonization, as we collectively propel India towards a sustainable energy future. At Suzlon, we’re committed to driving this transition forward, one innovative project at a time,” he said.

JP Chalasani, CEO of Suzlon Group, said the company’s strength lies in offering “fully integrated solutions — from in-house technology and manufacturing to execution and lifecycle services.” He added, “This allows us to deliver projects at scale while ensuring long-term value and energy security for our customers.”

Zelestra sets foundation for 5 GW hybrid pipeline

The wind order is part of a broader plan by Zelestra to develop a 5 GW portfolio of multi-technology hybrid projects in India by 2028. “This partnership with Suzlon marks a significant step in our vision to deliver even more ambitious and complex multi-technology renewable energy solutions for our customers across India,” said Sajay KV, CEO of Zelestra India. “It sets the foundation for delivering our portfolio of 5 GW, from our strategically sited and uniquely co-located hybrid projects with interconnection certainty of 2027 and 2028. We are confident that Suzlon’s experience and capabilities will help us deliver clean, reliable power to meet the country’s growing energy demand.”

Rapid uptake of Suzlon’s S144 platform

Suzlon noted that the 381 MW order significantly advances the commercial deployment of its S144 turbine platform, with the order book for the model now 91 percent full. The company, which claims to be India’s largest wind solutions provider, has an installed base of approximately 21.1 GW of wind energy capacity worldwide, including 15.1 GW under management in India as of March 2025.
