New Delhi: The Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), has signed an agreement with Scharge Pvt Ltd for a project titled “Powering EV Charging Innovation” under the India–UK Collaborative R&D Programme for Industrial Sustainability. Scharge Pvt Limited, an emerging Indian EV technology company, is focused on developing advanced power electronics and smart charging systems.

The project is being developed in partnership with UK-based Albright Product Design Limited and is aimed at building advanced and efficient solutions for electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
According to the ministry statement, the supported project is centered on a next-generation EV charging solution for commercial fleet and depot operations.
The system combines an EV charger charge controller developed by Scharge with a patented automated cable management system from the UK partner. The statement said the integrated approach is intended to improve operational efficiency, safety and usability in high-demand charging environments.
It will also include a motorised overhead cable management system designed for fleet-based applications. The ministry said this will reduce manual handling, minimise cable wear and tear, and improve user convenience.
The solution is compatible with existing AC Type-2 EV chargers and is meant to improve charging turnaround time while keeping depot infrastructure safe and organised.
The statement said the technology is expected to address “key operational challenges such as cable management, equipment protection, and workflow optimisation,” while also improving safety standards by reducing risks linked to cable damage, vandalism and operational hazards.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, said collaborative R&D initiatives such as the India–UK programme “play a critical role in accelerating the development of advanced, industry-relevant technologies.”

He added that “innovations in EV charging infrastructure are essential to support the rapid adoption of electric mobility and to build a robust, efficient, and future-ready ecosystem in India.”
Scharge Pvt Ltd said the support will help it bring “innovative, globally competitive EV charging solutions” to market and address the needs of fleet operators and infrastructure providers.
