Houston: Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has argued for a practical, technology-neutral approach to the global energy transition. Countries, he said, should be free to choose pathways that match their own resources, energy needs and development priorities.

Khattar made the remarks on Tuesday, after the second day of the Group of Twenty (G20) Energy Ministerial Meeting. He said reliable and affordable energy must stay at the heart of the transition.
"Every country has different resources, needs and development priorities. Therefore, there cannot be one energy path for all," Khattar said, according to a statement released after the meeting.
Khattar described how India is balancing economic growth with its clean energy goals. The country, he said, is speeding up the integration of renewable energy into the grid. It is also building out transmission infrastructure and scaling up energy storage. At the same time, regulatory processes are being simplified so that project approvals are more predictable and efficient.
On progress at home, the minister said non-fossil sources now account for more than half of India's power grid.
"Our direction is clear — secure, affordable and reliable energy for our people, while building a sustainable future," he said.
Tuesday's sessions focused on two priorities of the US G20 presidency: ensuring energy security and affordable baseload power, and making regulatory approvals faster and simpler.

While in Houston, the minister also visited the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Johnson Space Center to review developments in space technology. He praised the Indian-American community for what it contributes to local society and for keeping its cultural ties with India.
