New Delhi: Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and Qatar Energy's President and CEO Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi has “reaffirmed the State of Qatar’s commitment to remain a reliable energy supplier” and said he looked “forward to continuing and strengthening energy relations and cooperation with India,” according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Friday.

The statement said Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri arrived in Doha on April 9 for a two-day official visit and met Al-Kaabi in the evening. The two sides discussed “all aspects of the strategic relations between the two countries including high level engagements, trade, investment, energy, culture and people-to-people relations.”

Modi’s greetings and regional peace push

During the meeting, Puri conveyed “the greetings and message of solidarity and support on behalf of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi” to Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

He also recalled “the two telephone conversations between PM Modi and His Highness The Amir in March 2026,” when both leaders had emphasised “the urgent need to restore peace and stability in the region through dialogue and diplomacy.” According to the statement, Modi had also conveyed gratitude for “the care and support given by Qatar to the Indian community.”

In a post on X, Puri said he had conveyed the greetings and support message from the Prime Minister and added that he and Al-Kaabi “discussed all aspects of the strategic relations between the two countries.” He also wrote that they “look forward to further strengthening our bilateral relations.”

Ceasefire welcomed, supply disruptions flagged

Puri said on X that the two sides “welcomed the two-week ceasefire agreed on April 8,” and stressed “the importance of an early end to disruption in global energy supplies and restoration of normalcy.”

The ministry statement said both ministers emphasised “the need for unimpeded freedom of navigation and the global flow of commerce to maintain global supply chains.” It added that both sides agreed to remain “in regular touch in coming weeks.”
