The Kutehr plant is among the fastest built greenfield hydro projects in India and is backed by a long-term power purchase agreement with Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC) for the entire 240 MW at a levelised ceiling tariff of Rs 4.50/kWh. The agreement is valid for 35 years with provisions for extension. The power generated will be supplied to Haryana’s state distribution utilities — Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam.
With this capacity addition, JSW Energy’s installed hydro capacity now stands at 1,551 MW. Combined with 2,157 MW of solar and 3,562 MW of wind assets, the company’s total renewable share has increased to 56 percent.
Sharad Mahendra, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Energy, said, “We are proud to inform the successful commissioning of the second 80 MW unit of the Kutehr Hydroelectric Power Plant taking the commissioned capacity to 160 MW. We expect the last unit to be commissioned soon. The timing helps us to capitalise on high water inflows during the peak generation season and reinforces our strong project execution capabilities.”
JSW Energy has a total locked-in generation portfolio of 30.3 GW, which includes 12.9 GW operational capacity and 12.8 GW under construction across thermal and renewable segments. The company also has a 29.4 GWh energy storage portfolio comprising 26.4 GWh from hydro pumped storage projects and 3.0 GWh from battery energy storage systems.
The company aims to scale its total generation capacity to 30 GW and energy storage to 40 GWh by FY2030. It also remains committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
