New Delhi: Vedanta Limited said on Thursday its thermal power units — Meenakshi Energy Limited (MEL) and Vedanta Limited Chhattisgarh Thermal Power Plant (VLCTPP) — have secured a 500 MW Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) from Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL).

The agreement, effective from February 1, 2026, to January 31, 2031, was awarded at a tariff of around Rs 5.38 per kWh. Vedanta’s Meenakshi Energy in Andhra Pradesh will supply 300 MW, while the Chhattisgarh plant will deliver 200 MW.
The company said the allocation represents the highest share in TNPDCL’s 1,580 MW tender, underscoring Vedanta’s competitive strength and operational efficiency in the power sector. Both the awarded plants were recently acquired and brought to operational status in record time, said Vedanta.
“Reliable baseload power is vital to India’s energy security, and thermal energy continues to play a key role in ensuring that stability,” said Rajinder Singh Ahuja, CEO – Power, Vedanta Limited.
“This win reflects Vedanta’s growing leadership in efficient and dependable power generation. Our successful turnaround of Meenakshi Energy and VLCTPP demonstrates the strength of our operating model and underscores Vedanta’s ability to create value from complex assets,” Ahuja added.
He said the new PPAs “enhance revenue visibility and financial strength, laying the groundwork for future growth as we move toward the proposed demerger of our power portfolio under the Vedanta Power identity.”
Vedanta acquired Meenakshi Energy, a 1,000 MW plant in Andhra Pradesh, in 2023 and revived it to full operational capacity within two years. Similarly, the 1,200 MW Chhattisgarh Thermal Power Plant, acquired in 2022 as a half-built project, commissioned its first 600 MW unit in August 2025.

Across its businesses, Vedanta operates about 12 GW of thermal capacity, including nearly 5 GW of merchant power assets in Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. The company said these assets, now consolidated under the Vedanta Power identity, are key to strengthening India’s energy security and economic resilience through dependable power supply.
