Jhajjar (Haryana): The government is carrying out a “case-by-case” assessment of uncontracted Renewable Energy (RE) capacity, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) Pralhad Joshi said on Monday. He said the review is expected to provide clarity by early January 2026, as the process would take 30–45 days.

More than 40 GW of awarded renewable projects are currently in advanced stages of securing power purchase agreements (PPAs), power sale agreements (PSAs) or transmission connectivity.
Earlier this month, the government said it was exploring mechanisms to optimise transmission capacity and strengthen the contracting framework for such projects. Its efforts include examining the feasibility of signing PPAs and PSAs for certain awarded capacities and reviewing provisions such as the green shoe option. The government has also clarified that it is not considering blanket cancellations of bids.
Responding to a question in Jhajjar on the status of efforts to resolve uncontracted capacity, Joshi said MNRE officials had been instructed to examine each project individually. “I have told my officers after a recent meeting with the Ministry of Power to assess the projects on a case-by-case basis, and in one to one-and-a-half months, entire details will be with us after which we will let you know,” he stated.
Tariffs for solar projects range from Rs 2.38 to Rs 2.56 per unit, while wind project tariffs fall between Rs 3.70 and Rs 3.90 per unit. Winners of these tenders are also holding discussions with distribution companies to reach an understanding on the signing of PPAs.
