

New Delhi: India added a record 44.5 gigawatt (GW) of Renewable Energy (RE) capacity till November this year, including nearly 35 GW from solar power, according to an official statement issued on Monday. The total installed renewable energy capacity stood at 253.96 GW in November 2025, marking an increase of over 23 percent from 205.52 GW recorded in the same month last year, the statement from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) said.

The ministry noted that 2025 has seen the highest-ever renewable capacity addition. A total of 44.51 GW has been added so far this year up to November, nearly double the 24.72 GW added during the corresponding period last year.
Solar power emerged as the largest contributor to the expansion. Solar capacity addition during the period stood at 34.98 GW, compared with 20.85 GW added in the same period a year ago.
With this, India’s total installed solar capacity reached 132.85 GW in November 2025, registering an increase of over 41 percent from 94.17 GW in November 2024.
Wind energy also recorded strong growth, with capacity additions of 5.82 GW till November, up from 3.2 GW added during the same period last year.
India’s wind energy installed capacity had crossed the 50 GW milestone in March 2025. By November 2025, total wind capacity rose to 53.99 GW, an increase of over 12.5 percent from 47.96 GW in November 2024.
Separately, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi said rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana have crossed the 25-lakh household mark.

“Guided by the visionary leadership of Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji, 25 lakh households are now empowered with rooftop solar under the @PMSuryaGhar Muft Bijli Yojana, bringing cleaner power, lower bills and a sustainable future to millions of families,” Joshi said in a post on X.
