Ather Energy launches ‘Battery as a Service’ and new initiatives to boost EV adoption

Ather Energy launches Battery as a Service, buyback, and extended warranty to cut EV costs, boost resale value, and ease ownership

EW Bureau

New Delhi: Ather Energy Ltd, India’s leading electric two-wheeler manufacturer, has announced a trio of measures aimed at addressing the main hurdles to electric scooter adoption — high upfront costs, uncertainty over resale value, and warranty concerns. The company has rolled out Battery as a Service (BaaS), expanded its Assured Buyback programme to more customers, and introduced an Extended Comprehensive Warranty (ECW).

“With BaaS, ECW and Assured Buyback, we aim to address major barriers that exist for customers when purchasing a new EV scooter,” said Ravneet S Phokela, Chief Business Officer, Ather Energy Ltd. “As the EV segment continues to grow in the country, we see customers with different needs and challenges entering the segment. To unlock the segment’s true potential and accelerate growth, we've rolled out a slew of initiatives to cater to the different needs of our potential customers. As one of the leading players, we stay committed to making it easier for families to experience the benefits of EVs.”

Battery as a Service

Under BaaS, buyers can purchase the Ather Rizta starting at Rs 75,999 (ex-showroom Lucknow) and the Ather 450 Series from Rs 84,341, with flexible monthly battery usage plans offered through partner banks and NBFCs. The plans start at Re 1 per kilometre based on a 48-month package with a minimum of 1,000 km monthly usage. This reduces the Rizta’s upfront price by about 30 percent compared to the standard purchase and includes free fast charging for a year at over 3,300 Ather charging stations nationwide.

Assured Buyback programme expansion

First piloted in February, the Assured Buyback programme now covers a wider customer base, offering up to 60 percent of the scooter’s value after three years and up to 50 percent after four years, depending on mileage.

Extended Comprehensive Warranty

The ECW covers the battery and 11 other key components — including the motor, motor controller, dashboard, and charger — for up to five years or 60,000 km, whichever is earlier. It is available to all AtherStack™ Pro customers.
