Ather Energy launches new 450S variant with 161 km range and 3.7 kWh battery, priced at Rs 1.46 lakh to target performance-seeking riders

Bengaluru: Ather Energy on Thursday announced the launch of a new variant of its electric scooter, the 450S with a 3.7 kWh battery pack, offering an extended IDC (Indian Driving Conditions) range of 161 km. Priced at Rs 1,45,999 (ex-showroom Bengaluru), the new variant is positioned between the entry-level 450S 2.9 kWh and the more premium 450X 3.7 kWh.

The company said the new model addresses a key market gap by providing higher range without pushing buyers into the premium pricing bracket, while retaining the sporty appeal and tech features of the 450 series.

Designed for long-range performance

According to Ather Energy, the new 450S variant caters to riders who prioritise longer range and performance over the advanced software features available on the 450X. The 450S (3.7 kWh) uses the same 5.4 kW motor producing 22 Nm torque, offers 0–40 kmph acceleration in 3.9 seconds, and has a top speed of 90 kmph.

“Riders can now confidently plan longer journeys and still experience the thrilling performance the 450 series is renowned for — all at a more accessible price,” said Ravneet Phokela, Chief Business Officer, Ather Energy.

Sporty, tech-enabled and efficient

The new variant retains the sharp, angular design and LED headlamp unit that define the 450 series. Despite the larger battery, Ather claims the build quality, agility and handling remain uncompromised. The scooter features four ride modes, Smart Eco, Eco, Ride, and Sport, offering flexibility between performance and range.

The 450S also comes with a 7-inch DeepView display, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, auto brightness, AutoHold, Fall Safe, Emergency Stop Signal, theft alerts, and Alexa integration. These features are available with AtherStack Pro and will receive over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

Charging and warranty

The company said the new scooter is compatible with Ather’s 3,300+ public fast-charging points under the Ather Grid network. For home charging, 0–80% charging is expected to take 4.5 hours.

Ather is also offering its ‘Eight70’ warranty programme with the new variant, which provides coverage for eight years or 80,000 km, guaranteeing at least 70 percent battery health over that period.

Pan-India availability

Bookings are now open through Ather’s online platform and retail outlets. Deliveries are expected to begin in August 2025. The new variant is priced at Rs 1,48,047 (ex-showroom) in Delhi, Rs 1,48,258 in Mumbai, Rs 1,45,999 in Bengaluru, and Rs 1,47,312 in Chennai.

Ather Energy said the launch strengthens the 450 series portfolio by offering a more versatile and accessible option for riders seeking a mix of range, performance and affordability.
