New Delhi: Coal production and dispatches from captive and commercial mines recorded steady growth in December 2025 during FY 2025–26, according to data released by the Ministry of Coal on Friday. Production during the month stood at 19.48 million tonnes (MT), while coal dispatches were recorded at 18.02 MT. This marked a year-on-year increase of 5.75 percent in production compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

During the third quarter (Q3) of FY 2025–26, cumulative coal production from captive and commercial mines reached 54.14 MT, while dispatches stood at 50.61 MT.
The quarter registered a year-on-year growth of 5.35 percent in production, reflecting sustained operational momentum across the captive and commercial mining segment, the ministry said.
Cumulatively, coal production from captive and commercial mines during FY 2025–26 up to December recorded a year-on-year increase of 9.72 percent, while dispatches rose by 6.98 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
The ministry said these trends point to improved operational efficiency and more effective utilisation of mining capacity across the sector.
According to the Ministry of Coal, the improvement in coal output and dispatches has been driven by strategic policy measures, rigorous monitoring and consistent support extended to stakeholders.
“These efforts have been instrumental in expediting operational approvals and expanding production capacities,” the ministry said, adding that the measures have contributed significantly to the growth in coal output and dispatches from captive and commercial mines.

The ministry said it remains focused on creating a stable, performance-driven environment for captive and commercial coal mining through continued policy facilitation, close performance monitoring and coordinated engagement with stakeholders.
These efforts are aimed at ensuring reliable coal availability, supporting uninterrupted operations across key sectors and meeting India’s growing energy needs, in line with the long-term objective of building a Viksit Bharat 2047, the statement said.
