Mumbai: Adani Power Limited (APL) on Thursday said it has been awarded a total of 1,600 MW capacity by MP Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) under the recently concluded tendering process. This includes an additional 800 MW capacity granted through the exercise of the “greenshoe option,” following the earlier award of 800 MW on August 29.

Adani Power will supply power from the 1,600 MW (800 MW × 2) ultra-supercritical thermal power project, which it will set up under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model in Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh. The project will source coal from linkages allocated under the government’s SHAKTI Policy.
The company said it will invest around Rs 21,000 crore in developing the project and related infrastructure. Both units are expected to be commissioned within 60 months of the appointed date. The tariff for the additional 800 MW remains unchanged at Rs 5.838 per kWh.
The project is also expected to generate about 9,000–10,000 jobs during construction and around 2,000 once operational.
Adani Power noted that this marks the first time a greenshoe option has been exercised in a thermal power tender in India, enabling the procuring utility to quickly scale up its allocation under the same bidding process.
“We are delighted that Adani Power has not only secured the initial 800 MW project in Madhya Pradesh but has also been awarded an additional 800 MW under the greenshoe option. This reinforces our commitment to providing reliable, affordable, and sustainable power to the state and its people,” said SB Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power. The company said that it expects to execute the Power Supply Agreement (PSA) in due course with the state power distribution company (DISCOM).

With this award, Adani Power said its power supply orders over the past 12 months have risen to 7,200 MW, spanning projects in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. "In September 2024, it (Adani Power), along with Adani Green Energy, received the LoI for a composite 6,600 MW (5,000 MW solar and 1,600 MW thermal) power supply order from Maharashtra state. In May 2025, it received the LoA from Uttar Pradesh government for supply of 1,600 MW power from a greenfield plant in the state. In August 2025, the company received the LoA from Bihar government for supply of 2,400 MW of power from a new power plant to be set up in the state. Last month, it received the LoA from MP for 800MW, and the awarded capacity has now increased to 1,600MW following the exercise of greenshoe option by MPPMCL," said a statement.
The company is implementing 23.72 GW of capex, which will raise its total generation capacity from 18.15 GW today to 41.87 GW by 2031–32.
