Pune: Kalpa Power Private Limited, a solar energy management company, has announced the launch of WATTBANK, billed as India’s first productised Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Designed for commercial and industrial (C&I) businesses, WATTBANK charges during the day using solar energy and automatically supplies power during the evening peak tariff hours. According to Kalpa Power, the system can help typical 1 MW facilities save between Rs 80 lakh and Rs 1 crore annually, delivering direct savings from day one.
The Pune installation is integrated with a larger solar-powered system, enabling Amar Business Zone to operate as a fully net-zero office complex.
Kalpa Power said WATTBANK is being offered through a “productised service” model that includes energy audits, customised storage design, end-to-end implementation, 24x7 data visibility and lifecycle management. The system has a designed lifespan of 25 years and uses Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries, chosen for their safety and efficiency.
The company added that the BESS will help manage demand fluctuations, enhance grid stability and reduce overloading risks.
Highlighting the importance of storage, Rounak Muthiyan, Founder and Director of Kalpa Power, said, “Energy storage is the key missing link for scaling renewable energy in India. The BESS allows for power to be delivered when it’s required, not just when it’s available, directly tackling the variability of solar and ensuring our clients have 24/7 access to clean, reliable electricity. With WATTBANK, we are accelerating the clean energy transition while delivering immediate cost benefits to businesses.”
