Suzlon bags 105 MW order from Sunsure Energy for its most powerful wind turbine

Suzlon's S175 (5.0 MW) turbine secures its first commercial order — 105 MW from Sunsure Energy

New Delhi: Suzlon Energy has secured a 105 MW order from Sunsure Energy for its S175 (5.0 MW) wind turbine, marking the first commercial order for the next-generation model within two weeks of its launch, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The order is Sunsure Energy's third with Suzlon in under 14 months, taking the cumulative partnership between the two to 400.8 MW. The project will be executed in the Bijapur district of Karnataka.

The scope covers the supply, erection, commissioning and maintenance of 21 S175 wind turbine generators (WTGs). According to the statement, the order "marks a strong commercial debut for S175, reinforcing strong customer confidence in Suzlon's differentiated technology and innovation-led product portfolio."

S175 built for tougher wind sites

The S175, positioned by the company as India's tallest and most powerful wind turbine, is powered by a 175-metre rotor and a 160-metre hybrid lattice tower, designed to access stronger and more stable wind regimes for higher energy yields, the statement said. The company said the turbine "unlocks new wind frontiers by converting previously unviable sites into commercially attractive opportunities, significantly expanding the addressable market for wind energy."

Management cites scaling C&I market

Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman, Suzlon Group, said, "Sunsure began their wind energy journey with us and has now grown into one of India's largest and fast-growing C&I focused renewable energy providers. We are proud to support their growth as our partnership deepens across geographies — from Karnataka to now two orders in Maharashtra and technology — from our maiden project on a 2.1 MW platform, to scaling on our 3 MW platform, and now becoming the launch customer for our next-generation 5 MW S175 turbine. We value their continued trust in our technology and execution capabilities."

Manish Mehta, Co-Founder & Chief Commercial Officer, Sunsure Energy, said, "Our strategy is centred on meeting the need for firm, reliable clean energy driven by India's accelerated electrification and an expanded manufacturing footprint powered by data centres, GCCs, advanced manufacturing, electric mobility. This order is a precise strategic choice as the S175 is purpose-built for firm and dispatchable power, enabling seamless integration into hybrid and Round-The-Clock solutions. It feeds into our ambition of being a 10 GW platform by 2030 and Suzlon's three decades of execution across India gives us full confidence in the partnership."
