New Delhi: A fire broke out at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) around noon on Wednesday, and one person suffered a minor injury. The company said the fire had since been brought under control. It started when a cold separator operating at high pressure ruptured in the refinery's Coker Hydrotreater Unit.

"No major injuries have been reported," MRPL said in a statement. The one person who was hurt was taken to hospital. According to the company, the person "is out of danger" and is getting the medical attention they need.
MRPL said it isolated the affected unit first. "The battery limits of the affected unit have been isolated," the statement said. Its emergency response and firefighting teams then moved in, and the company described them as "actively engaged in controlling and dousing the fire."
The fire is under control, but the job is not finished. "The firefighting operation may continue for some time as part of the safe handling of the incident," MRPL said.
The company said it was watching the situation closely, "with safety of personnel and the facility being accorded the highest priority." It added that more details would follow. "Further verified information will be shared as soon as it becomes available," the statement said.

MRPL also spoke directly to people in and around the refinery. "There is absolutely no reason to panic for individuals within and outside MRPL premises," it said.
