

New Delhi: JSW Energy Ltd has crossed 15 gigawatts (GW) of operational generation capacity, the company said in a statement on Friday. Its operational capacity now stands at 15,025 megawatts (MW), after the commissioning of 1,572 MW since April.

The company crossed 10 GW in March 2025, and said the latest milestone came in under six quarters. It put the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over that stretch at about 26 percent.
Renewable projects account for 1,272 MW of what has been added in the current financial year (FY27). Solar makes up 593 MW of that, followed by 420 MW of hybrid, 150 MW of hydro and 108 MW of wind. The remaining 300 MW is thermal capacity the company acquired rather than built.
That thermal addition is Maruti Clean Coal & Power Ltd (MCCPL), which JSW Energy acquired in full on August 7 at an enterprise value of Rs 1,410 crore. The plant is at Korba in Chhattisgarh, and carries a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) of 195 MW net with Rajasthan discoms routed through PTC India, with about 14 years of residual life.
Renewable energy now accounts for 9,067 MW of the operational portfolio, or over 60 percent of it. Wind is the largest component at 3,125 MW, ahead of 2,426 MW of solar, 1,781 MW of hydro and 1,735 MW of hybrid. The balance is thermal, at 5,958 MW.
Against a greenfield capacity addition target of 3 GW for FY27, the company said it had reached about 42 percent so far and remained on track.
Counting capacity not yet running, JSW Energy put its locked-in generation capacity at 32.4 GW. Alongside the 15 GW operational, that covers 13.4 GW under construction across thermal, hydro and renewables, and a pipeline of 4 GW.
Locked-in energy storage stands at 29.6 gigawatt hours (GWh). Pumped hydro accounts for 26.4 GWh of that and battery storage for 3.2 GWh. The company said the storage build positions it to supply firm, round-the-clock power as the sector shifts from energy to dispatchability.

JSW Energy is targeting 30 GW of generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage by 2030, and carbon neutrality by 2050. It began commercial operations in 2000 with two 130 MW thermal units at Vijayanagar in Karnataka, and says its capacity has grown from 260 MW since then.
